Vandalism in Our Campus

Have you ever pass or enter the toilets in our campus? Have you ever see something disgusted there? Or have you ever smell very unwell aroma from there? Look at the wall around the campus; do you see clean wall at every corner in our campus? Your answer is “NO”, isn’t? Who did make these problems? Of course the user of those facilities includes us, the college students in Art and Language Faculty. Do you conscious that those problems are the results of doing vandalism?  

             What exactly vandalism is? Well, vandalism is crime of deliberately damaging public property. It is done by the vandals. The vandals are people who deliberately destroy or damage works of art, public and private properties. They also destruct the beauty of nature. They do vandalism for some mad reasons. The vandals are encouraged by anger, envy, or spontaneous action. Many of them also say that they do the vandalism because they want to express their creativity. But, whatever their reasons, vandalism is still a crime.

            I can give you the examples of vandalism which are done by the college students in our campus. First, vandalism action has been shown by the graffiti on the wall, chairs, tables, and some facilities in our campus. Students often litter the chairs and tables with some pictures, words, and sometimes they write their names there. They think that they can show their existence to other people by doing it. They absolutely wrong! To show our existence is not by doing vandalism, but do more beneficial actions. Second, vandalism is also shown at the toilets in our campus. Graffiti is still found there. Beside that, some female students often throw tissues or bandages in the toilet. So, it makes the sewage system clog up. The effects of this situation are disgusted condition and very unwell aroma from the toilet. The other vandalism action is done by irresponsible people who waste the trash at the wrong places. Sometimes they eat in the classroom and leave the trash there. That is not a good behavior. And it should not to be done by the intellectual people in a great university like Undiksha.

            To solve these problems, the dean of faculty has sent a letter to the college students. The letter is about an advice not to do any kinds of vandalism. But, although the letter has been read by the students, if they do not obey it, the vandalism will still “alive”. Now, it is your choice, if you want to be a “real” intellectual person, please avoid doing vandalism.
